It ignores the spectator's experience in viewing the film, places ultimate value on the propositional content that is later distilled from that viewing, and misunderstands the function of the viewing experience in developing the film's themes and ideas. 12 Rounds ei ole huono siksi, että elokuvasta puuttuisi teema, sanoma tai tekijöiden näkemys maailmasta. Ei toimintaelokuvaa arvioida moisilla kriteereillä.

12 Rounds ei ole huono siksi, että John Cenan kasvoilla on hienovaraisuutta yhtä paljon kuin kakkosnelosessa. Toimintaelokuvassa tärkeämpää voi olla esimerkiksi juokseminen, ja Cena juoksee oikein hienosti.

12 Rounds ei ole huono siksi, että käsikirjoitus toistaa kliseitä, on puuduttavan tylsä ja loppujen lopuksi vielä pseudoyllättävä. Tai siis on se pikkaisen huono sen takia. Toimintaelokuvassakin voi olla käsikirjoitus, joka on jännittävä tai saa välittämään hahmoista, sillä sellaiset tekijät saavat antamaan anteeksi sen, että…

…12 Rounds on huono, koska ohjaaja-kuvaaja-leikkaaja-kolmikko Harlin-Boyd-Berdan ei ole tehnyt leffasta edes kuvallisella tasolla kiinnostavaa.

Ensimmäinen esimerkki:

Elokuvan pahis puhuu puhelimeen hotellin katolla. Yhten lauseen aikana tapahtuu seuraavaa: kamera kiertää häntä vastapäivään, kunnes noin kolmannen sanan kohdalla leikataan myötäpäivään liikkuvaan kameraan, josta leikataan taas kolmen sanan päästä takaisin alkuperäiseen kuvaan.

Miksi yksi puhelimeen puhuttu lause pitää esittää kolmella kuvalla kahden 360°-kamera-ajon ristiinleikkauksena? Tekeekö se kohtauksesta jännittävämmän?

Toinen esimerkki: myöhemmin nähdään flashback, jossa päärosmo työntää rahalla täytettyä kärryä pitkin käytävää. Kuva kestää ehkä 3–5 sekuntia, jona aikana ruutu välähtää yhtä monta kertaa valkoiseksi. Flasheja korostaa tietenkin VIUH!-ääniefekti. Kärryjen työntäminen käytävää pitkin on jännittävää, mikäli sitä edeltävät tapahtumat luovat jännitettä. Valkoiseksi välähtävä ruutu ei tee mitään muuta kuin kohottaa vitutuskäyrää.

PS: Elokuvassa nähdään Satu-niminen vene. Jos erään talon seinään maalatusta Suomen lipusta ja päähenkilön täysin mielivaltaisessa paikassa käyttämästä Helsinki-repliikistä voi mitään päätellä, on veneen nimi tarkoitettu kunnianosoitukseksi.

Tiedä sitten miten tulkita se, että vene romuttuu täysin pahiksen auton törmätessä siihen.
