Mustavalkoinen kännykkämies
Ovelana poikana olen kiertänyt ongelman väärinkäyttämällä kameraa tahallisesti. Tein oman esivalinnnan, joka vääntää kontrastin tappiin, pudottaa värit pois ja maksimoi herkkyyden. Toisin sanoen matkin jyrkkää ja herkkää mustavalkofilmiä.

Tärkeintä hommassa on se, että se on tehnyt kuvaamisesta hauskaa ja – ennen kaikkea – saanut unohtamaan välinerunkkauksen. Kuvaan toki yhä mieluusti Outin täysikennoisella 5D:llä tai eBaystä ostetulla Kiev 88:lla, mutta en ole koskaan oppinut kantamaan kameraa mukana. Kännykkä löytyy taskusta aina.
Toisekseen on mukava huomata, että ei sillä vekottimella juurikaan ole väliä. Tietenkään kännykällä ei saa otettua kaikenlaisia kuvia, mutta tarpeeksi monenlaista kyllä. Omat taitoni tulevat vastaan nopeammin kuin laitteen rajat.

Los Angeles ei ole kaupunki
Miltä Los Angeles näyttää? En ole koskaan käynyt siellä, mutta olen nähnyt tuhansia kaupungissa tehtyjä elokuvia. Useimmissa se on tosin esittänyt jotain ihan muuta.
Thom Anderson tietää ja on tehnyt aiheesta dokkarin Los Angeles Plays Itself. Koska se koostuu kokonaan muista elokuvista leikatuista pätkistä, leffan saatavuus on kehnonlainen. Tosin minun tuurillani se on esitetty Orionissa huhtikuussa. YouTubesta löytyi pieni pätkä:
Onneksi dokkarista on kirjoitettu kohtalaisen paljon. Dennis Cozzalio ja Chale Nafus referoivat leffaa kattavasti. Elokuvan osat ovat The City as Background eli Los Angles esittämässä muita kaupunkeja, The City as Character eli film noirista alkava mielikuva LA:sta murhaavan korruptoituneena jättiläisenä ja The City as Subject eli kaupungin historiaa konkreettisesti käsittelevät rainat.

Esimerkiksi Tyttö sinä olet tähden epäkaupunki – kuvattu Turussa ja Helsingissä, ellen väärin muista – on jotenkin ärsyttävä, vaikka Dome Karukosken tarkoituksena oli varmaankin vain tehdä paikasta universaali.
